Lehrstuhl für Biophysik

Our research concentrates on aspects of molecular biophysics especially the structure, dynamics and function of proteins as well as on computer-assisted prediction of organ function of the cardiovascular system in particular. In the long term, our interdisciplinary research should lead to new therapeutic and preventative strategies as well as advances in precision medicine.

Forschungsschwerpunkt Stoffwechsel

Metabolism

Translational aspects of cellular electrophysiology with a focus on cancer, sepsis and cardiovascular disease. Complex systems analysis with a focus on fractal analysis of digital images and non-linear time series analysis.

Forschungsschwerpunkt Signaling

Signaling

Investigation of structure-function relationships in ion channels, their optogenetic and optoelectronic manipulation and their role in the etiology of disease.

Investigation of ion channel function and its role in signal transduction and gene regulation. Special attention is paid to the molecular mechanisms of store-operated calcium channels, which play a central role in both immune function and excitable cells.

Forschungsschwerpunkt Präzisionsmedizin

Precision medicine

Research activities include computational modeling of cardiac function as well as quantitative morphology and non-linear methods.

Investigation of the molecular structure of lipoproteins and development of liposomal nanoparticles.
